Torres Getting A Kick Out of Life

Unfortunately for Torres, the dark circles underneath his eyes are a product of opponent targeting and not the recent birth of his first born like most first time parents.
Torres black eyes are getting black eyes, adding four more shinners to his collection in the past couple weeks alone! Still, Torres raves that English football is the model of fair play. Stating:
‘I get kicked a lot here, but at least they do it honestly.’
Although endorsing English football, being such a hot target for other players physicality has to wear out the guy, right?
After all Torres is human and with his ever growing fame, the target on Anfield’s number ’9′ is only burning brighter and brighter these days.
At the beginning of the season Rafael Benitez expressed growing concern for the Spanish striker, worrying about Torres tendency to get ‘distracted’ and react to the on coming intimidation.
Uncharacteristically sharing that Torres opponents were successfully putting Fernando off his game. This season Benitez has ordered the striker to stop all the back talk with the ref’s and opponents on the field and concentrate more on his game.
Always trying to learn and improve, Torres took the advice to heart stating:
“This type of thing happens and I have to learn. I have to adapt and protect myself because I think the referees don’t have to protect just three or four players, they have to protect all of them.
“Of course, I have to be aware of defenders paying more attention to me. I have to improve and play to my strengths. The defenders here knew me better half-way through my first season, so I cannot use that as an excuse. I know people know me now and I have to try and be a little bit better.”
Obviously with Torres, revenge isn’t always the best policy. Preferring to learn to harness his frustrations and turn them into something useful for Liverpool and himself. Why waste his time focusing on the negative, when the positive is so much better right? Torres seems to agree.
“Scoring goals is always the best answer. I have to stay focused on football. If you get frustrated then you cannot win the game. I know for the good of the team I have to be aware and beat the defenders. That is my job. I speak to Rafa all the time and he said to me: ‘Stop talking to referees. They are just doing their job.’ I have been watching clips of my performances from the first and second seasons with Rafa and am trying to do the things I was doing then, while also trying to improve.”
Don’t worry Torres, although there seems to be an uprising of guys who seem to want to add to your ever growing collection of black eyes, remember this; You’ll Never Walk Alone. We the fans will stick by you through the thick and thin and appreciate everything you’ve done thus far!
