Spain 2-0 France: The International Friendly Favors La Furia Roja

After forty-two years, forty-two long cursed years, Spain were finally able to defeat Les Bleus on French soil in yesterday’s international friendly.

France started out strongly, but surprisingly Les Blues quickly ran out of steam and things began to get going in Spain’s favor instead.

The Spaniards enjoyed a good spell of possession as they patiently passed the ball around waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

The moment seemed to present itself when Busquets made the most of Xabi Alonso’s free kick, and headed the ball towards the net. Unfortunately the hit was too much as the ball zoomed past the post.

Still, fortune was on La Furia Roja’s side as two minutes later David Villa put the visitors ahead when his shot found the bottom corner of the French net.

Doubling their lead before the first half was over, Ramos cut into the fullback and his strike beat the French keeper after taking a slight deflection off Escude.

Spain’s 2-0 had built great momentum ahead of the second period. Fernando Torres then entered into the game for substitute David Villa.

Torres proved his fitness level was miles ahead then expected by most, taking part of some of Spain’s best attacks in the game.

Feeling the pressure, Les Bleus came to life midway into the second half, but to no avail as the game finished 2-0 in Spain’s favor.

La Furia Roja got the morale boosting win against 2006 German World Cup runner’s up and managed to break the curse that enabled them to win on French soil for the first time in forty-two years!

Hopefully this win is an omen of good things to come this summer down in South Africa!
