Reds Sink Manchester United At Anfeild
As of late it’s no surprise that Liverpool has been going through a rough patch, loosing games and just not performing how Liverpool fans know they can perform.
Already dropping in the Premier League score sheet, it was imperative that Liverpool defeat Manchester United to stay on top.
From the start the game was fierce, Liverpool’s eye on the prize as they attacked with all their might and kept Manchester United at bay. Though to be fair, it didn’t seem like Manchester was really up to playing football till the 20th minute of first half.
With Liverpool the favorite to score first, it looked like the Reds would get a chance to one up the Red devils when Kuyt was pulled down by Berbatov, but the referee and linesmen with all their ‘wisdom’ failed to call out the infringement and give the Reds their must do penalty during stoppage time.
Coming in on the second half, once more the home side showed their hunger by dominating ball possession and keeping a constant attack towards the visitors.
The second half was alright until the 65th minute when things exploded into life thanks to Torres and his ninth goal of the season, which propelled Liverpool 1-0 against the Red Devil’s.
To keep things going, with just ten minutes going on the clock, Benitez brought in Ngog for Torres (who still wasn’t 100% and needed some much deserved rest).
Making things more interesting Vidic was sent off after earlier receiving a yellow card against Torres, then racking up a second by taking Kuyt down on the half way line.
With Fergie’s side having only 10 men, the Reds soon followed march as Mascherano earned himself another yellow card and the boot out of the game – leaving Liverpool only 10 men as well.
Almost the last kick of the game, David Ngog beat the Man U keeper with a shot into the far corner. Scoring the second goal of the day for the Reds and closing the game with a taste of victory.
Finally the Merseysiders proved what they could do and did it, earning much needed points and climbing up to the 5th spot in the Premier League score sheet.
Here’s a couple of things Torres had to say about his encounter with the Red Devil’s:
“I wasn’t really at my best. We knew before the game I couldn’t play to 100 per cent because I had some pain in some actions, but in games like this the pain doesn’t matter.”
“I am really happy for the fans and the players and we will enjoy this. We are in the race again. We knew before the game that we had to win and we did it. Now we have a bit of confidence but we have to keep it going on Wednesday in the Carling Cup against Arsenal. Then we have to be focused for Fulham. But we feel like a strong team again because we’re working all together like in the past.â€
