All Reds Can Do Now Is Sit Back And Wait
It’s been a rocky road for the Rds this Champions league season – that no one can deny, as they pinned their hopes of Liverpool earning a win against Lyon and moving on to the later stages of the tournament.
Now hearts are shattered as they future of Liverpool staying in the Champions League looks bleak and any hope hat does remain to move on is based on how other teams in other groups outside Group E do. Though place to be if you Liverpool – or for that matter, a Liverpool fan.
Torres started out the game as one of Rafa’s top 11 and got of to a good start. Being denied his 11th goal of the season when French keeper hit a perfect save to keep Lyon above water from 1-0 deficit to the Reds.
The French keeper wasn’t the only one to help keep their team up, Reina also had a fantastic save to make when twenty minutes into the game Gomis had Lyon’s first shot on target.
Come second half it was the visitors who stayed on top once more, but it was Lyon’s Hugo Lloris, who came to Lyon’s rescue and kept the French team from being out scored.
After much persistence and drive from the English red side, they were rewarded with a goal in the last seven minutes remaining when Babel cut inside Gassama and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.
With three minutes reaming Rafa felt it safe to substitute Ngog in for Torres – oh how wrong you were Rafa. Just when everyone (Frenchie’s included) thought Liverpool would go home with all 3 points, Lyon comes out and surprises everybody in the last minute of play!
How could this happen you may be wondering?
It all occurred when the Red back-line failed to clear a headed pass from Kallstrom leaving Lisandro Lopez with the easy job of shooting past Reina. Hopefully destiny can be kind enough to the Liverpool Reds and send them right on through to the second round.
A girl can dream right?
